Chat 1: The marketing brochure
Sahil is designing the new marketing brochure. We will have photos, etc. on it. Here is the first chat transcript

SAHIL SETHI: i need photos to be put in the brochure
Me: what r u looking for in particular?
SAHIL SETHI: well, ideally, it would be great if i had photos for each event
SAHIL SETHI: but one photos for the poster presentation, one of the stall
SAHIL SETHI: one or two of the sem hall to its full capacity
SAHIL SETHI: one of the lamp lighting during inaguration
SAHIL SETHI: and one of the panel discussion, with faces clearly visible
Me: k... wait for a few minutes
SAHIL SETHI: k
SAHIL SETHI: More questions....answer them freely, wheneveru have time
SAHIL SETHI: 1) what is the venue of the panel discussion
Me: i am seeing the photos i have
Me: everything is in the sem hall
SAHIL SETHI: 2) How many pages in the proceedings
Me: around 100
SAHIL SETHI: thats it!
SAHIL SETHI: boy,thats small
Me: why? the proceesings have abstracts of all posters presenter. that is 1 page per poster, 75 posters
SAHIL SETHI: and the papers?
Me: the complete papers are given in a cd
SAHIL SETHI: remeber the CALL for papers, with big drosophila eyes
SAHIL SETHI: ohh
SAHIL SETHI: so can we offer the sponsor's name or logo on the CD
SAHIL SETHI: hey what about asking some company to supply their CDs for this
Me: sure... the problem we usually face is that getting cds printed (with anything) is a) expensive abnd b) requires time
SAHIL SETHI: ashwani told me HCl almost helped us in putting up a touch screen till amma intervened, now HCL is a hardware company right
Me: nono, amma did not have anything to do with it
SAHIL SETHI: hey let the company supply their own CDs, maybe we can go n talk to HCL or something like that..........surely big firms have their office CDs like office stationery
Me: sure... ashwani sir knows someone in HCL. they were theones also supposed to put up their screen. the prob that happened that we needed a presentation from them to learn to use the screen, and there was no time for that
SAHIL SETHI: well, that person has left HCL now
SAHIL SETHI: and ashwani says he has no contact there
SAHIL SETHI: but we've got an option now, to go to such firms
Me: okey... photos.yahoo.com/raghav273 has photos of biohorizon2004 (i have made the album public. the one u were in). there is one photo of the senate room. u can use that iof u want (the pohoto has gappa and nidhi)
Me: yes, we can
Me: harry tried talking to silicon graphics last time... u could talk to him regarding that
SAHIL SETHI: well, i have certain things in my mind, why dont we meet monday and discuss that
Me: sure... we can do that
SAHIL SETHI: the brochure is almost done now.....only some minor details where u can fill me in
Me: what is ur email id? i will mail u a few photos
SAHIL SETHI: So, i've abolished co-sponsors

Me: okey... and i have also set up a blog called biohorizon2006. i will send u an invite of that... we put everything there
Me: i have a few photos of the speakers, but they are all hard copies (of the inaug... lamp lighting, etc.) we can scan them on monday
SAHIL SETHI: i ve put separate pages on "modes of participation/communication/sponsorship", and they have sections like Internet, BAnners, Posters,Proceedings etc.....this looks more professional where a company knows what exactly is he getting n we do not beat around the bush

Me: and how do we get them to the company? u bind them? or use them as leaflets? what

SAHIL SETHI: My coiusin is a graphic designer....I'll meet him over the weekend and discuss this with him

SAHIL SETHI: spiral bind is not the rite idea.....for biggies like India oil, Monsanto etc....which are few in no...we'll take out specially-binded brochures
Me: and what about the cover?
SAHIL SETHI: maybe hard bound.....its expensive but worth a shot....we need 10 copies maybe
SAHIL SETHI: I was also thinking of contacting banks .....HDFC, ICICI,global trust....hell,... SBI for all u know
SAHIL SETHI: lookin at the way banks have generously given in rendezvous n sportech

SAHIL SETHI: and with Bio-ventures being the talking point of biohorizon
Me: yeah, but there are not too many vcs in the bio sector
Me: we tried that last time, but there were not too many vcs in the pharma/bio sector
SAHIL SETHI: no i am not talking about VCs
Me: on the cse site, go to open house, and then to the weekly highlights (some highlights)
SAHIL SETHI: U had speakers from yes bank rite
SAHIL SETHI: and indus valley too i guess
Me: over there, i had uploaded a 1 page write up of our dept stuff,. that has a few photos of things in the dept. try to get that on the cover of the brochure
Me: indus valley kab tha?
SAHIL SETHI: i dunno....
Me: u think u could use the complete video recording of biohorizon in some way?
SAHIL SETHI: yeah, we will put the recording along with the photos on the website archives
Me: it is 6 vcds
SAHIL SETHI: and also, we need a logo for biohorizon , soon
SAHIL SETHI: I took the beta logo from the site, n put in the brochure
Me: no
Me: we are changing the logo
Me: delete the logo
SAHIL SETHI: but a biohorizon logo would be great
Me: shubhankar (2nd year) will mail mehra the logo
Me: i am talking abt the beta logo
SAHIL SETHI: all rite, but gimme a new logo soon

SAHIL SETHI: we need both, a beta logo and a new biohorizon logo/mascot!
Me: sure... u also want a slogan?
SAHIL SETHI: well we have the slogan right........The pink kurta
